Does a Passport for Public Affairs Need a Vietnam Visa?

📅 August 2026⏱ 2 min read✍️ EntryVN Team
⚡ Quick Answer
No. The Chinese Passport for Public Affairs (因公普通护照, black cover) enters Vietnam visa-free for up to 90 days, and immigration stamps your passport directly — no loose-leaf visa needed.

This matters because of what people expect. Chinese travellers often arrive having read that Vietnam never stamps a Chinese passport. That rule is real, but it applies to the red ordinary E-series passport — not to yours.

Check the cover before you fly: black, with “PASSPORT FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS” printed in English. If that’s your document, you join the ordinary immigration queue and walk out with a normal stamp.

⚠️ Two things still apply. Your passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond arrival, and you must submit the free pre-arrival declaration before flying — that one covers every foreign passenger, visa or no visa.
✅ 90 days is per entry, counted from the date stamped at the border. It permits business travel, not paid employment for a Vietnamese employer — that needs a work permit and a matching visa class.
