Where to Extend Your Vietnam Visa in 2026?
⚡ Quick Answer
Extend your Vietnam visa at the Department of Immigration in any major city, or through a licensed visa agent. Apply at least 5 days before your visa expires.
Vietnam’s Department of Immigration (Cục Quản lý Xuất nhập cảnh) handles all in-country visa extensions. You can visit any provincial office — it doesn’t have to be the city where you entered.
Main Immigration Offices
| City | Address | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | 44–46 Tran Phu St, Ba Dinh District | Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm |
| Ho Chi Minh City | 254 Nguyen Trai St, District 1 | Mon–Fri, 7:30am–5pm |
| Da Nang | 7 Tran Quy Cap St, Hai Chau District | Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm |
Using a Visa Agent
Most travelers use a local agent — they handle paperwork and queuing for an extra $30–80 USD service fee. Worth it if you don’t speak Vietnamese or are short on time.
⚠️ Your passport is held during processing (3–5 days). Plan around this if you need it for other activities.
How many extra days can I get?
Usually 15–30 days per extension. After one extension, a second is very difficult — most people do a visa run (exit and re-enter) instead.
Can I extend a visa-free entry?
No. Visa-free entries cannot be extended. You must leave Vietnam and re-enter, either visa-free again or with a new e-visa.
What if I apply but my visa expires during processing?
You’re technically in overstay while waiting. That’s why applying 5+ days before expiry is critical.
