Best Time to Arrive at Vietnam Airports (Beat the Immigration Queue)
Arrival time is the weaker of the two variables. The stronger one is how many aircraft are processed alongside yours — which is why a small airport can be slower than a large one.
Tan Son Nhat (SGN) — Ho Chi Minh City
The busiest international airport in Vietnam. Peak congestion:
- Worst: Friday 5–9pm, Saturday 7–11am, public holiday eves
- Immigration queue when several flights land together: up to 3 hours
- Immigration queue with only 1–2 flights on stand: 20–40 minutes
Noi Bai (HAN) — Hanoi
Generally less congested than SGN, but sees spikes during Vietnamese national holidays.
- Worst: Tet (Lunar New Year) eve period, national day holidays
- Immigration queue when several flights land together: up to 3 hours
- Immigration queue off-peak: 5–15 minutes
Da Nang (DAD)
Fewer counters, not faster processing. Da Nang and Cam Ranh reach three hours too, and get there more easily than the big two — two charters landing together is enough. Summer brings waves of them from Korea and China.
How to Reduce Queue Time
| Strategy | Time Saved |
|---|---|
| Use e-gate (if eligible — most Western passports) | 15–40 min |
| Book Fast Track VIP service | Bypass queue entirely |
| Have all documents ready before landing | 5–10 min |
