Count the countries on your trip. One → buy a local Vietnamese plan, the gap is roughly four to one on a monthly package. Three or more → buy a regional plan and stop thinking about it. Two is the only close call.

A local plan sells you Vietnamese domestic pricing directly. A travel eSIM buys wholesale roaming access and resells it in dollars with a global app and support layer on top. You are paying for that layer.
Is the international one at least faster?
Nobody has published a reliable measurement, so treat any speed claim with suspicion — including one in our favour. What is verifiable is the structural difference: a travel eSIM reaches the towers as a roaming visitor, a local plan makes you a domestic subscriber.
Can I decide after I land?
You can, but it is the worst moment to be deciding anything. Airport counters start around $12 and you will already have queued for immigration. Install something before you fly, whoever you buy from.
