Best Time to Visit Vietnam 2026: Month by Month Honest Guide
Vietnam is 1,700 km long and spans multiple climate zones. There is no single “best time” for the whole country — but there is a best time for what you want to do and where you want to go. Here’s the real breakdown.
Quick Summary by Region
✅ Hanoi (North) — Oct to Apr
Dry and cool Oct–Mar (15–22°C). Avoid Jun–Sep: hot, humid, heavy rain. Tet (Jan/Feb) is magical but crowded.
✅ Ho Chi Minh City (South) — Nov to Apr
Dry season. Sunny, hot (~32°C), manageable. Rainy season May–Oct has daily afternoon showers but still very visitable.
🔵 Da Nang / Hoi An (Central) — Feb to Aug
Dry, warm, and beach-friendly. Sep–Jan can bring typhoons and serious flooding — check forecasts.
✅ Phu Quoc — Nov to Apr
Dry season, crystal clear water. May–Oct is rainy season — rough seas, some boat trips cancelled.
Best Overall Window for a Full Vietnam Trip
November to early April is the safest all-round window if you’re planning to visit multiple regions (Hanoi → Da Nang → Hoi An → HCMC or Phu Quoc). This period avoids typhoon season in the central coast, catches HCMC’s dry season, and gives you Hanoi’s cooler weather.
Month-by-Month at a Glance
- Jan–Feb: North cool and dry ✅ | Central dry ✅ | South dry ✅ | Tet crowds ⚠️
- Mar–Apr: Excellent everywhere ✅ — most reliable window
- May–Jun: South getting rainy ⚠️ | North hot | Central still OK
- Jul–Aug: North rainy | Central OK (peak beach season) | South rainy ⚠️
- Sep–Oct: Typhoon risk central coast ⚠️ | North wet | South rainy
- Nov–Dec: Improves everywhere ✅ | Christmas peak crowds
For the months above, the heat is not the problem so much as the standing in it — outdoor queues, temple courtyards, waiting for a car. Rechargeable, pocket-sized.

Yes — Vietnam’s “rainy season” usually means afternoon showers rather than all-day rain, especially in the south. Hotels are cheaper, crowds are smaller, and the landscape is greener. The exception is the central coast (Da Nang, Hoi An) in October–November, which can have serious flooding and typhoons — check forecasts carefully.
Hanoi and northern Vietnam can get genuinely cold (10–15°C) in December–February — bring a light jacket. HCMC and the south stay tropical year-round (28–35°C). Phu Quoc stays warm even in the dry season (27–32°C).
