5 Mistakes Tourists Make on Vietnam’s Pre-Arrival Form (And How to Avoid Them)

📅 July 2026⏱ 3 min read✍️ EntryVN Team
⚡ Quick Answer
The most common errors on Vietnam’s prearrival.immigration.gov.vn form are: entering passport numbers with wrong formatting, skipping the visa section if you’re visa-exempt, using a nickname as hotel name, leaving the address field vague, and not saving the QR code before boarding. All five are easily avoided — here’s how.

Vietnam’s pre-arrival declaration at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn is required for all foreign arrivals at SGN, HAN, DAD, PQC, and CXR airports since April–June 2026. It’s quick to fill out — but easy to make subtle errors that cause unnecessary delays at immigration. These are the five mistakes we see most often.

1Entering the Passport Number Incorrectly
Passport numbers must match your document exactly — including any leading zeros, dashes, or letter prefixes. The most frequent error: omitting a leading zero (e.g., entering “12345678” instead of “012345678”) or adding a space where there is none.
Fix: Look at the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) on the bottom of your passport photo page. The number there is definitive. Copy it character-by-character.
2Leaving the Visa Section Blank Because You’re Visa-Exempt
If your nationality qualifies for Vietnam’s visa exemption (e.g., citizens of Thailand, Singapore, Germany, France, and many others), you don’t need a visa — but the form still has a visa section. Many travelers skip it entirely or enter nothing, which causes a validation error or flags the form as incomplete.
Fix: Select “Visa Exemption” from the visa type dropdown. Then enter your exemption duration (usually 45 days for most visa-free nationalities). Don’t leave it blank.
3Using a Hotel Nickname or Abbreviation Instead of the Official Name
The form asks for your accommodation name and address. Travelers staying at “The Rex” enter “Rex Hotel” — but the official registered name might be “Rex Hotel Saigon” or “Bong Sen Hotel Annex.” Immigration cross-checks this against their registered accommodation database.
Fix: Use your hotel booking confirmation. Copy the exact name shown in your reservation, including any city suffix. For Airbnb or private accommodation, write the full street address and add “(private rental)” after it.
4Entering a Vague or Incorrect Address
“Ho Chi Minh City” or “Hanoi” is not a valid accommodation address. The form requires a street address, ward (phường), and district. Entering city name only — or using an approximate address — causes errors.
Fix: Find your hotel’s full Vietnamese address from its official website or Google Maps listing (e.g., “123 Nguyen Hue, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City”). Vietnamese addresses list smallest unit first: street → ward → district → city.
5Not Saving or Printing the QR Code Before Boarding
After you submit the form, you receive a confirmation with a QR code. Some travelers assume they’ll be able to access the website again at the airport — but airport Wi-Fi can be slow or unavailable, and scrambling for a screenshot at the immigration queue is stressful.
Fix: Screenshot the QR code page immediately after submission and save it to your camera roll. Optionally print it or save the PDF. Do this at home before you travel.
⚠️ Bonus mistake: Filling in the form with your flight departure time instead of your arrival time in Vietnam. The form asks when you arrive in Vietnam — not when you leave your home country.
