How Long Must Your Passport Be Valid for Vietnam?

📅 July 2026⏱ 1 min read✍️ EntryVN Team
⚡ Quick Answer
Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your arrival date in Vietnam. Airlines enforce this before boarding.

This is one of the most costly travel mistakes. Vietnam requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date — not from your departure date or visa expiry.

Example: Arriving July 15, 2026 → your passport must not expire before January 15, 2027. A passport expiring December 2026 (only 5 months away) will get you denied at check-in.

⚠️ Airlines check this, not just Vietnam immigration. You’ll be denied boarding at your home airport — often with no refund on your ticket.

If your passport expires within 8 months of planned travel, renew before applying for your visa. Vietnam’s e-visa is tied to your specific passport number — a new passport means a new e-visa application.
